Routing and destinations

Webhook receivers

Push matching notifications to a public HTTPS endpoint that can start your agent’s workflow.

When to use it

Choose a webhook destination when your receiving platform exposes a webhook URL and key, such as a hosted Grok Bot routine.

Example

invoice-reviewer sends a wakeup to your invoice-review routine. The routine checks the signal, ignores synthetic tests, and follows the task instructions you supplied.

Set it up

  1. In the receiving platform, create or choose a webhook-enabled workflow. Save and activate it, then obtain its public HTTPS URL and key.
  2. Open Webhook receivers. Enter the URL and key in the secure fields, not in chat or an agent prompt.
  3. Configure the receiver to read body.events[] and recognize synthetic connectivity tests.
  4. Choose this receiver in a named agent or output draft. Approve an intentional receiver test and check the same signal ID at the receiver.
  5. Review the saved agent or output and approve activation. Outputs accept publish_agent_result by approved name, not arbitrary URLs.

Important limits

  • The receiver must be public HTTPS; private, local, and credential-bearing URLs are refused. Doorbell sends the saved key as Authorization: Bearer.
  • A webhook source receives events into Doorbell; a receiver accepts outgoing notifications.
  • An accepted POST completes delivery, not the receiving workflow. Network uncertainty and retries can produce duplicates.
  • Several agents or outputs can share a receiver. Pause every attached address before replacing its URL and key. Test the new credentials and approve each address's activation again.
  • Generic webhook compatibility is not a verified setup path for every platform. If your client exposes no URL and key, this push route cannot be configured there.

Troubleshooting

  • If a test fails, check that the receiver is active and that the URL and key are correct.
  • If Doorbell reports delivery but no work occurs, inspect the receiving workflow and its instructions using the signal ID.
  • Before deleting a receiver, change or delete every attached address, including paused and draft setups. Read the deletion preview rather than assuming it is unused.
